“SOUVENIRS” is a collection of short stories written between 1993 and 2001. Each story carries within it a subtle link or “souvenir” from one or more of the other stories. In some cases, that souvenir may be a significant object, a name, a location, an event, a theme, or a more nuanced stylistic connection. As diverse and seemingly dissimilar as the narratives appear at first glance, they reveal upon closer examination a gestalt formation of magic, romance, epiphany, and fantasy. Consequences of an action in one narrative ripple through and echo in other stories, and thematic cross-references abound. Envisioned as a cycle of related tales, the group can be approached in any order. This collection offers several very different virtual worlds for the reader to explore, and within these dense environments remain the hidden souvenirs of the author’s own travels.
